Indulge in the Decadent Christmas Pudding
Christmas pudding is part of a traditional English pudding. Date pudding is served at Amish Weddings. Date pudding with butter sauce is a unique Christmas desert that will become a beloved family tradition. You can serve it at the end of a Christmas dinner or later in the evening with coffee.
It is a very rich desert and can be served on it's own. Using butter is essential for the rich flavor and texture of this desert. It is not something you can make a low fat version of. If you are counting calories this holiday season , you will want to count them elsewhere , and enjoy this decadent indulgent desert.
This desert could also be served late Christmas morning in place of pastry. Again it can be a stand alone item served with juice and coffee. It can also be served at a holiday gathering , it goes wonderfully with hot rum drinks.

Ingredients for Christmas Date Pudding
- 6 large eggs, separated
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 stick butter, unsalted
- 4 tbs flour, heaping
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 cups dates, chopped
- 2 cups walnuts, chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt, kosher
Instructions for Christmas Date Pudding
- Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees
- Separate three large eggs. Put side yolks in medium glass bowl. Put aside whites in medium glass bowl.
- Fold in sugar while you beat your egg whites. Egg whites should be stiffly beaten.
- Beat egg yolks and add to mixture.
- Fold in flour,baking powder, and salt.
- Mix in chopped dates and nuts with a wooden spoon. Mix well. Pudding will have very coarse texture.
- Spread into a greased 2-qt. baking dish. Bake pudding at 325 for 40 minutes or until fork inserted in center comes out clean. Check after 30 minutes.

Ingredients for Butter Sauce
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup butter unsalted
- 2 cups water boiling
- 2 tablespoons flour heaping
Instructions for Butter Sauce
- In a large bowl combine sugar and flour.
- Cut in softened butter with fork
- Place mixture in sauce pan
- Add boiling water to pan.
- Whisk in heaping four
- Over medium heat stir mixture slowly until thickens.
- Generally it will take 5 plus minutes to thicken
- Do not boil.
- Let set a couple of minutes to thicken more and then pour over pudding while hot.
- To make this a carmelized sauce use brown sugar instead of white.
